Random #45

Oh my. I forgot how quickly agendas & assignments build up. I have a care plan & a focus note due Monday. I've got personal notes to finish up for studying. I have 2 chapters to read for this upcoming Thursdays test. I have to actually go over all past notes for said test. Oh and I have a Psych quiz on Tuesday and a Nutrition 5-day meal tracker assignment due for Wednesday. Just a day in the life...

Been living off of Trader Joe's this past week. Affordable (lunches for under $5), convenient (5 mins away from school) and delicious (wild salmon wrap, turkey bacon wrap, Cobb salad and mango quinoa chicken salad *drools*). Not to mention all the inexpensive, wide variety of ingredients at my cooking disposal (like I've had the time).

I take it back. Psych is growing on me. I just didn't know how to approach it from the beginning. These patients are just like any other patients from any other unit (but with different mental mindsets). Nurses are supposed to treat all patients the same way - sane or not. It was nice to see some people from my last clinical improve a bit. My patient was taking meds again (after being off it for 4 months) and another patient is managing impulsive behaviors better. One new patient this week though really hit close to heart. So young. Reminded me of someone. And after interviewing him and hearing how his experience in the ward is, I definitely can see the perspective that my past friend had. But it's too late for empathizing with said person. I just wish I had a much more open mind at the time. I kinda feel guilty (ashamed even) for the way I looked at it.

Now I really want to cook slash bake slash eat everything right now. Or have someone else do it. A 3 course meal with wine.
But I need to get the lub-dub machine flowing again. Haven't had a proper workout for a couple of weeks what with school. Tsk..my wacked out schedule. Well, it's not wacked. I'm just not used to being a morning person.

Leave you all with this. Ma mere found it while cleaning. I'd say circa 1992-93 top & 2004 bottom.

Chinatown

Any request to partake in some mastication will have me promptly present to planned outing. FC & I spent Friday (a much needed Friday for me) indulging in MSG-ridden, soy sauce doused Chinese food downtown at Joe's Shanghai which they're renowned for their delicious, succulent soup dumplings. Soup dumplings, you ask? Quite literally soup inside a dumpling. The pre-frozen soup ball is placed inside the dough and once steamed is defrosted and ready for slurping...lots of lip licking slurping. Mmm how pleasant they were, the warm balls. Uhh....pardon the suggestive phrase but they were just so damn good. Hey, when in Chinatown...

On our way to the train, we managed to clash with the San Gennaro festival in Little Italy (we do quite often stumble upon events haphazardly). Apart from the slow moving mass of people, the occasional restauranteur trying to get you to eat at their eatery, and the blasting club music, the calm-after-the-storm (literally) atmosphere & the night made for a pleasant way to end dinner. That and the tiramisu & cannolis we devoured.

Doesn't Agulos hair look like a lion's mane? I like how it's lighted from behind (we were at Justin's new apartment playing Apples to Apples & saw a photo op).

So much for the weekend. Always anticipated, always short...

Senior year. Quite frightened. Quite excited. Supposedly intense but so far, not so bad. Professors are...tolerable (except for Psych - I hang on his every word! I love him that much). Schedule's tolerable as well. Takes getting used to rising early every day at 5:30AM.

M: Med-Surg Clinical
T: Psych Lec / Med-Surg Lec
W: Psych Clinical (every other week) / Nutrition (night class - get out at 9PM BOO)
Th: Med-Surg Lec
F: no class - 3 day weekend

Clinicals are...meh. Psych clinicals are not my cup of tea but it's all part of getting that degree. I do feel bad for the patients there. The environment doesn't seem therapeutic for them. But then again, it could just be that hospital. As for Med-Surg, the first clinical will be this Monday. Let's see how that goes.

I find this insanely bizarre & interesting.
"Endometriosis - The normal lining of the uterus grows in an abnormal place. This displaced endometrium acts just like normal endometrium by changing each month under the influence of estrogen. When the hormone level drops and the normal endometrium sheds from the uterus, the displaced endometrium, wherever it is, also sheds." - Med-Surg textbook

This is my life right now. Eat, breath, sleep nursing ♥

Is it too early for some resolutions?

Things to keep in mind:
a) not be out on a school night
b) control consumption & rethink before opening wallet (unnecessarily purchased a pair of kick ass knock-off Acne shoes sans shiny bottom...BUT THEY WERE WORTH IT)
c) sleep EVEN earlier than usual (preferably at this time)
d) not give in so easily to hanging out (especially now)
e) read a little more extra even if reading assignments have been done
