Random #40
Lack of blogging not due to lack of time but because there hasn't been anything new going on lately. It's been the occasional beach day here, bar hop there, bbq's left & right, late night hang outs...those kinds of things. Nothing exciting. I'm enjoying myself but it's turning into this repetitive cycle of the same activities, you know? I was hoping to take the FC gang to the poconos but that was out of the question for my mother (something about consuming electricity & spiking up the bill...or was it consuming alcohol & spiking our drinks?). I'm just itching to get out of the city. I am quite excited to sleep over at Bell's tomorrow! Not only have I not seen her in AGES but it will be my first time stepping foot in Staten Island. Yes, to this day it is the only borough I have not been to so I'm ready to trek around there. Plus, nothing beats a sleepover accompanied with pigging out & good company.
Don't think a post is about you. Making assumptions will only make you look like an ass. There's a reason for discrepancy. For one thing, I don't know who my readers are. I don't know who visits this site. And if I do have visitors, what are the chances that I could be discussing one of them? But you don't know that. For all you know, I could be talking about a family member (which could be anyone) or someone who lived on my floor back at Stonybrook (which ALSO could be anyone) or my next door neighbor or an ex-best friend. So just don't assume...
I fucking hate labels. I hate how things you like begin to collectively be classified under one stereotype & will forever be under it. This always happens to things I begin to get into or start to like. Eventually they turn into a common thing that a common people like/partake in. Like this fucking hipster scene. I liked American Apparel way before. I liked reading Nylon before it was considered hipster read. I liked Poastal Service, Justice, M.I.A. & a bunch of other artists from way, way back then before it was considered "hipster" to listen to. Ugh it's disgusting. I hate labels. Why should we be branded by what we wear or who we listen to? Why does it fucking matter what store I shop at? I buy shit from ALL over the place. Or what I read? Since when was Salinger & Hemingway considered hipster material? It's because they're good writers. I read their stuff way before I even knew about labels (7th grade - Hemingway's Old Man & the Sea, interesting book to me at the time & still to this day). My point is what you like doesn't technically make you who you are. Well, it does but it doesn't define you WHOLLY. And people shouldn't be fully judged solely on what their interests are.
